UCL ISoc is arguably THE most diverse society in UCL made up of a wide variety of people from different backgrounds with a huge range of interests and studying the whole spectrum of disciplines. What unites us all is our common goal to seek knowledge, broaden our horizons and to make a positive difference through the teachings of Islam. It is the people that make this society what it is and the sisters here at UCL will help to make your time at UCL truly unforgettable!
As well as organising main ISoc events, sisters also love to have our own exclusive events throughout
the year where we meet up, get to know one another and just generally chill whilst gaining knowledge through our weekly get-togethers, classes and spontaneous socials. Be warned – much of this involves food and trying out different types of halal cuisine, so it is advisable to come with empty stomachs (elasticated waistbands are optional).
The best part of the ISoc experience is however, gaining knowledge with each other in a friendly, relaxed and fun environment. There is no activity that brings us closer to each other than learning about the Deen and our weekly halaqas aim to help build the sisterhood at UCL inshaAllah. We help provide for your social, personal, spiritual (and edible) needs.
University is a time where you work hard and play hard. You have the opportunity to explore new avenues and make a real difference to those around you, from fellow students to the wider community. UCL ISocers are always there for you whether it is just for a friendly chat, to help with problems that may arise both inside and outside uni, or simply to go out and have fun with. Everyone really is like an extended family. If you see any of us around UCL feel free to stop us and have a chat. In the unlikely event of you not seeing us around campus, you’re bound to bump into us at the ‘Quiet Contemplation Room’ aka the legendary Hut 34 prayer room, several times a day. You will no doubt learn to love it!
The ISoc is also a great way to develop essential skills for your time at university and throughout your life. It’s a great starting point to link with other UCL societies and departments. Our rewarding projects can help improve your leadership/organisation/teamwork/ICT/design/writing/(baking!) abilities along with a whole host of other transferable skills. You’ll have the chance to network with others and achieve personal goals whilst making great friends.
Contrary to popular belief, the sisters don’t just sit around eating cupcakes – well, not all the time anyway… You can look forward to weekly halaqas and upcoming socials including our Eid Parties, Sports activities (self-defence, football, basketball etc.), end of term Sisters Ball, Ice-Skating, fundraising Fashion Show and much, much more!!!!!
